Founded in Treviso in 1873, the Ceramica Appiani has been present on the national and international market for 130 years. Its first steps were the production of ornaments, hollow tiles and brickworks to arrive in the 50's at the famous "red gres", up to the present period characterised by the production of single-pressed fired ceramic tiles.
HISTORY
•1872 Graziano Appiani designs and patents a continuous action kiln with return-flow fuel loading.
•1873 Foundation in Treviso of a factory for the production of brickwork: the "Premiata Fabbrica Ceramica Sistema Appiani".
•1881 Participation at Milan International Expo and penetration in foreign markets, first of all in the Austro-Hungarian area.
•1883 The "Royal Venetian Institute of Arts and Science" awards Graziano Appiani a diploma of honour.
•1884 Gold medal at Turin General Expo.
•1900 Gold medal at Paris Expo. Great success is achieved, not only in European markets, but also in Argentina, United States, India and Egypt. The factory starts producing pressed tiles made of clay powder while new systems are set out for the prevention of dusts produced during the processing and firing of raw materials. Electricity is introduced in the industrial production.
•1904 Gold medal at St. Louis Universal Expo - United States of America.1906 Gold medal at Milan International Expo.
•1911 Construction of the "Villaggio Eden" in Treviso. The village included residential facilities for employees, a movie theatre, a skating rink and a dance hall.
•1929 Appiani starts the production of the first coloured ceramic tiles. During the Fascist period, especially because of the imposed autharchy policies, tenders are mainly for military barracks, hangars, hospitals, railway stations, etc.
•1938 Dead the son of the founder, Mr Gabbianelli takes over the management of the company. Important improvements are carried out in the grinding and pressing of red clays as well as in the reduction of dust pollution in the factory.
•1960 Adonella Appiani, grand-daughter of the founder, joins the company and organizes the construction of new production units far from the main premises in Treviso, now become a residential area. Co-operations develop with architect like Giò Ponti and Pompeo Pianezzola.
•1973 An innovative production plant for the production of glazed red stoneware, through the exclusive "single-pressed fired" technology, is built in Oderzo (Treviso,Italy).
•1992 Appiani joins Altaeco Group that counts other prestigious brands in the worl of ceramic for architecture such as Ceramica Bardelli, Ceramica Gabbianelli and Vogue.
•1993 Development of single-pressed fired ceramic mosaic.
•2000 Appiani production plant is entirely renovated and all processes are now computer led.
